The Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Initiative was announced by the Finance Minister in the Union Budget 2026–27. She said that the initiative will help to strengthen traditional rural industries in the country. She said the initiative will focus on khadi, handloom, and handicrafts sectors across country. She also informed that the initiative aims to improve global market access, branding, and strong market linkages. This initiative seeks to make traditional industries more competitive and economically sustainable. She also indicated that this initiative will ensure stable livelihoods for artisans and weavers for the country and will target weavers, village industries, rural youth and the beneficiaries of One District One Product (ODOP).

02) “Agni Pariksha” A Joint Exercise of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Indian Army –

Recently, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) along with the Indian Army conducted an exercise named as “Agni Pariksha”. This exercise was conducted at ‘Sigar’ in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The exercise Agni Pariksha was the six-day joint training Exercise. This exercise was a joint training exercise aim to improve coordination and combat teamwork between the two forces. This was the first exercise of its kind focusing on inter-force operational integration. The personnel from Spear Corps, artillery regiments, infantry battalions, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police took part in this exercise and the non-artillery soldiers were also trained in artillery procedures and firing missions.

Recently, The National Career Service (NCS) Portal was in the news because it was published that more than 2.23 crore jobseekers were shortlisted through this digital platform as of 20 January 2026. 05) Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship 2027

First time India will host the Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship 2027 in New Delhi. This will the historic first for Indian shooting championship for India. This championship will offer eight Olympic quota places for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. These eight quotas will be in addition to 12 quota places from the World Cup Shooting event. 06) The Australian Open men’s singles tennis title 2026

The Spanish professtional tennis player Carlos Alcaroz won The Australian Open men’s singles tennis title for 2026 and completing his career Grand Slam. Alcaroz defeated Serbian professtional tennis player Novak Djokovic in the finals. Carlos Alcaroz won the title by 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in the finals. The event was held at Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park. This Final match was played for three hours. Carloz Alcaraz became the first Australian Open winner at the age of 22 or he became the first who won the title at the young age of 22. Novak Djokovic is 38 and became the oldest player who reached to finals in the Open era to win a Grand Slam. Novak Djokovic was defeated in the Australian Open final for the first time in his 11 appearances.

07) First Prize at Swachhata Pakhwada Awards 2025

Recently, it was in the news that Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has been conferred the First Prize at the Swachhata Pakhwada Awards 2025. This award is instituted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). As per the PIB report that several organisations were awarded the Swachh Bharat Pakhwada Awards-2025 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for their exemplary performance during Swachh Bharat Pakhwada 2025 and Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 promoting a cleaner and more sustainable work environment through cleanliness drives, citizen participation, awareness campaigns and Swachh Mitra welfare. The purpose of this award is for the exemplary performance in cleanliness, sustainability and community participation during Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 and Swachhata Hi Sewa 2025. The award was presented by Hon’ble Union Minister of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in a ceremony held in New Delhi. Shri P. L. Haranadh, IRTS, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, received the honour on behalf of the port team.

09) Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice – DISHA Scheme

Recently the Law Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal has informed in Lok Sabha that “Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice” (DISHA) Scheme was launched for the period of five years upto 2026.
This scheme was treated as a regional workshop on the Tele-Law Programme. This programme was organised at Kalaivanar Arangam to strengthen technology-enabled justice delivery and ensure last-mile access to justice and operated under the DISHA Scheme – Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice. DISHA is a multi-dimensional initiative of the Government of India aimed at providing citizen-centric access to justice across the country. The aim of the scheme was to promote legal awareness, legal empowerment and digital access to legal services especially for rural and vulnerable communities.

10) The Tulbul Navigation Barrage Project – located at the mouth of Wular Lake in Jammu & Kashmir

The Tulbul Navigation Barrage Project was stalled about last 40 year. The project is located at the mouth of Wular Lake in Jammu & Kashmir on the Jhelum River. Through this project government is considering diverting the water of the Ravi River in Punjab to the Jammu region. This move comes amid the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) 1960 between India and Pakistan. The government of Jammu & Kashmir is also pushing to revive the Tulbul Navigation Barrage Project, also called the Wular Barrage. This barrage is a navigation lock-cum-control structure at the outlet of Wular Lake in Jammu & Kashmir. Work began at the project in 1984 but it was suspended in 1987. This project was designed to facilitate navigation on the Jhelum River during lean winter months. The project regulates the water of Wular Lake to maintain minimum river draft up to Baramulla in winter.
