Baglihar Dam – Baglihar Hydel Power Project

Baglihar Dam which is also known as “The Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project.” Baglihar Dam is a run-of-the-river power project on the Chenab River in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Baglihar Dam is
the first power project executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation. The proposal for making the Dam has been taken in the year 1992 and approved in the year 1996 and the construction have been begun in the year 1999. The estimated cost of the project Baglihar Dam was Rs one hundred crores. The project consists of two-stage of 450MW each. The first stage of the project was completed in 2008 – 2009 and the second stage of the project was completed in 2015 -2016.

– The planning of the project started in 1992 and was approved in 1996 and the construction started in the year 1999.
– The project consists of two stages of 450 MW each.
– The first phase of the Baglihar Dam was completed in 2008 – 2009.
